i think its a crying shame that the pier is falling in to such a state.. i was born in maidstone and now live in medway towns. i turned 50 last year, and have come on day trips to hastings since i was a small boy, i took my own children there and my grandsons first trip to the seaside was hastings.. these trips ALWAYS included a trip to the pier to play on the penny machines.. fond memories!!
i would like to see it restored to its former glory so that i may long comtinue to have trips to hastings and the pier..

The pier is an essential element of Hastings regeneration and as there are comparatively few large piers left, it is an important landmark that helps put Hastings on the map. It also had the only children friendly outdoor pub that I know of in the town.

Unfortunately it is not in the centre of town and has not got the pedestrian flow of say Eastbourne or brighton piers. This could be addressed to some extent by extending the mini railway down the promenade so that it terminates at the pier and thereby connects the holiday traffic in the Old Town as well as the town centre.
