Trustees Required

Hastings Pier & White Rock Trust (HPWRT) are a burgeoning development trust located in Hastings, East Sussex who are working to rescue and restore the Victorian pier, located in the White Rock area of Hastings which  has fallen into disrepair over the last 5 years.

Seeing this venture as a method of bringing the pier back into community ownership and kick-starting the regeneration of the seafront area in Hastings and St Leonards, they are looking for 2-3 Trustees to join their current board who possess some of the following areas of expertise to compliment the existing Board:

  • Marketing
  • Legal
  • Fundraising
  • Human Resources
  • Volunteer Recruitment & Management
  • Retail
  • Capital Projects

The Trust are members of the Development Trusts Association, so knowledge of regeneration would be useful.  You would ideally be located in the Hastings or St Leonards on Sea areas and be committed to helping us take forward the Trusts vision and strategy.  This is an exciting and challenging time to join the Trust as we are about to open our new visitor centre and embark on the next phase in the acquisition of the Pier.

The Trust operates as a company limited by guarantee, so all Trustees are also directors, therefore the usual exclusions for company directorships apply.

Ideally, candidates will have held or hold senior positions in successful organisations and will be able to demonstrate commitment to the Trust, strategic vision, good independent judgement, creativity and the ability to work well with others.   It is also important to have the time and inclination to be involved in “hands on” problem solving and where necessary, project delivery and carrying out representational activities for the Trust.  The Board of Trustees meets once a month in the evening and holds open meetings for members four times a year.  It would also be expected for Trustees to undertake duties outside of these meetings.

Working with partners such as the Local Authority is an essential part of the Trust’s role, so we are particularly keen to engage someone who possesses an understanding of the local area challenges and be politically aware.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to your local area.

We welcome an informal conversation via the contact details listed before submitting your CV and covering letter in support of your application:
